A BRIEF HISTORY OF ANACORTES

Anacortes has a rich history dating back thousands of years ago with the Samish and Swinomish Tribes. Spanish and British explorers arrived in the late 1700’s and pioneers began arriving on Fidalgo Island in the 1850’s.  Anacortes was later founded in 1879.

North Cascade Scenic Washington State Route 20 beginning in Burlington through Sedro-Woolly, along the Skagit River, through towns of Concrete, Rockport, Lake Diablo, Ross Lake.

This is part one of three parts with emphasis on the scenery along the highway. Waterfalls, lakes, mountain tops and peaks and valleys, This highway is nationally recognized as a scenic byway. "The Most Beautiful Mountain Highway in the State of Washington".

I made this video slideshow from photos posted by travelers of the Cascade Scenic Highway for the purpose of showing my friends one of the activities they could do while visiting us and staying with us in our Hope Island Cottage, near La Conner and Anacortes, Washington.

Averaging only just over 20,000 visitors a year, North Cascades National Park is the least visited National Park in Washington, due to the only road through the park being closed during the winter months.   Home to incredible hikes to remote mountains. The North Cascades National Park is one of the region’s best kept secrets.   Whether you drive through the park and only stop at the Lake Diablo lookout, the journey to the North Cascades National Park will be full of beauty.

Hope Island State Park” – There are actually two different Islands in the State of Washington with the same name and both are Washington State Parks.  So to help to make the distinction , I came upon a website which refers to “Hope Island Deception Pass State Park”, located in Skagit County
(The other island with the same name is located near Olympia in Mason county).
